October 12 is a Regular Holiday (Eidla Fitr – Feast Of Ramadhan)

It’s another long weekend. This coming Friday is a regular national holiday. The President, through the Executive Secretary, issued Proclamation No. 1397, declaring Friday, 12 October 2007, as a regular holiday throughout the country in observance of Eidl Fitr (Feast Of Ramadhan). PROCLAMATION NO. 1397

DECLARING FRIDAY, OCTOBER 12, 2007 AS A REGULAR HOLIDAY THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY IN OBSERVANCE OF EIDL FITR (FEAST OF RAMADHAN)

WHEREAS, Republic Act No. 9177 declared Eidâl Fitr (Feast of Ramadhan) as a regular holiday throughout the country;

WHEREAS, Eidâl Fitr , celebrated by the Muslim world for three (3) days after the end of the month of fasting;

WHEREAS, the implementation of RA 9177 shall be under the supervision of the Office on Muslim Affairs (OMA) which shall promulgate rules and regulations pursuant to the provisions of said Act;

WHEREAS, for this year, the month of Ramadhan may culminate either on October 12 or 13, 2007 subject to the sighting of the new moon on October 11, 2007;

WHEREAS, according to OMA, the main date for the celebration of Eid’l Fitr this year has been determined to fall on Friday, October 12, 2007;

WHEREAS, in order to bring the religious and cultural significance of the Eid’l Fitr to the fore of national consciousness, it is necessary to declare Friday, October 12, 2007 as regular holiday throughout the country;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, GLORIA MACAPAGAL-ARROYO, President of the Republic of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare Friday, October 12, 2007 as a regular holiday throughout the country.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.

Done in the City of Manila, this 1st day of October, in the year of Our Lord, Two Thousand and Seven.
