Angelo A. Jimenez


Mr. Angelo A. Jimenez is a law practitioner providing legal and business development advice to Philippine business interests in the Middle East. He also teaches Criminal and Labor Law at the New Era University College of Law.

From 1993 to 2007, he was in government service specializing in labor and employment.  He handled national interest cases at the Office of the Secretary of Labor and had extensive experience in resolving labor disputes and has served with distinctions in all major global hotspots during the last ten years where Overseas Filipinos Workers have been endangered.

He was Labor Attaché from 1997 to 2005, tasked with developing overseas labor markets and delivering a broad array of critical government services, including seeking commutation of death sentences and obtaining releases in foreign jails, in such culturally-diverse countries as Tokyo, Kuwait, and Iraq. He was a key crisis management planner and officer on the ground when war broke out in Kuwait and Iraq in 2003, and was subsequently based in war-torn Baghdad until October of 2005 where he was also involved in hostage negotiations and actual rescue operations.

Mr. Jimenez was Deputy Administrator of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) from 2005 to 2007. He was designated Home Front crises manager in the Hezbollah-Israel war in Lebanon in 2006, and was in Lebanon when factional fighting broke out again in January 2007.

He is a recipient of two Presidential citations for his role in the rescue of Roberto Tarongoy in Baghdad, Iraq in 2005, and where he was assigned for two years, and for his performance as crisis manager during the war in Lebanon in 2006. He is a published writer and an internationally recognized Resource Person on labor and migration.

Mr. Jimenez was a well-known national and campus leader and a multi-awarded writer and debater in his student days.  He was elected Chairman of the University of the Philippines Student Council in Diliman in 1991 and was appointed member of the UP Board of Regents in 1992 by President Corazon C. Aquino. He was Associate Editor of the Philippine Collegian and was elected National President of the College Editors Guild of the Philippines (CEGP) in 1987. He won the UP Law Freshman Debate competition in 1987. In 1990, he was a member of the UP College of Law team that won the national championships in the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competitions and represented the Philippines in the international rounds in Washington, D.C.

Mr. Jimenez took his degrees in Sociology (‘87) and Law (‘94) from the University of the Philippines, Diliman. He was admitted to the Philippine Bar in 1995.
