Elsa R. Divinagracia holds a Bachelor of Laws law degree from the University of the Philippines College of Law, where she served as a member of the editorial board of the Philippine Law Journal. She also has a B.A. degree in English, cum laude, from the same University, and a Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School. |
Ms. Divinagracia is a member of the Philippine and New York bars, having passed the latter prior to her enrollment for her LL.M. degree. She was a law clerk of Justice Teodoro Padilla of the Supreme Court of the Philippines, and was an associate in one of the country’s largest law firms. She was also the head of the Corporate Services division of one of the country’s top conglomerates for several years, and supervised the requirements of its power and energy-based publicly-held company while serving as corporate secretary of the Group’s various subsidiaries and affiliates in banking real estate construction, food, and transportation, among others, both in Manila and the Group’s headquarters in Cebu.
Prior to joining JLP Law as partner, Ms. Divinagracia was the Senior Vice-President-Legal of a conglomerate engaged in commercial leasing and retail operations, entertainment, real estate, and the nationwide franchise operations of an international multi-product and multi-brand food chain. She revamped the legal department and streamlined its operations while supervising the work of lawyers and six paralegals handling over two hundred cases covering property law, land titling, labor, leasing, construction, franchise law, hotel management agreements, entertainment and music law, intellectual property, mining, leasing, family law, Foundation work, and criminal law, among others, and also liaisoned with several retained law firms in recommending Group legal strategy to the Board of Directors. Ms. Divinagracia actively participated in contract drafting and international negotiations and also participated in business generation and human resource management.
She was also the general counsel of an energy company, and is currently at work on a book on Energy Law endorsed by the U.P. College of Law Centennial Commission.
